What is Kinesiology?
Health Kinesiology, the form of muscle testing offered at the Haven, is an unusual therapy not currently offered in other cancer centres. Diagnosis is based on the individual Visitors’ body’s needs. Based on a combination of Chinese medicine, acupuncture, applied kinesiology and psychological knowledge, Health Kinesiology was developed by Dr Jimmy Scott, a Canadian doctor and psychiatrist in the late 1970’s. The principal concept behind Health Kinesiology is the belief that illness occurs as the result of imbalance in the body’s energy system built up over a long period of time, causing the immune system defences to collapse. This can be triggered by a specific stress or trauma, or by disturbances in virtually any aspect of life over time – nutrition, emotions, thoughts, relationships, experiences from childhood, fears, environmental chemicals or electro-magnetic pollution.
How can kinesiology help?
The hypothesis is that only when the energy system is in balance can the body overcome both physical and psychological disease. During a series of sessions, a variety of energy corrections allow more and more stresses to be removed from the energy system, bringing the body back into balance and enabling it to heal itself.
What happens in a session?
The person to be tested lies fully clothed on a therapy bed and holds their arm against a specific light pressure. The result of the test is either that the muscle holds strong or is weak and gives way, which is interpreted as an indicator of energetic balance or imbalance. The concept is that the person’s own body knows what it needs, in what order, to bring it back to health. Various corrections to the energy field are then carried out to release the identified stress and these may include the use of magnets, acupressure, allergens, homeopathic remedies, or specific thoughts, sounds and body positions.
When can kinesiology be given?
Kinesiology can be useful at any stage, including before, during and after conventional treatment.
Kinesiology is usually given in three one-hour long appointments, though this can be increased if there are long-standing and complex issues to deal with.
