What is Life-work coaching?

Many changes are imposed on you following a diagnosis of breast cancer.  Life-work coaching helps you to deal with these by developing practical skills and strategies, and thus reclaim some control in life. It is a practical and positive way to refocus on personal needs.

How can Life-work coaching help?

The sessions can help deal with the impact of change, and offer support as new ways of operating are created and defined.  By exploring priorities and focusing on what is important, you can rediscover your sense of self and grow in confidence and self-esteem. This can be achieved in some of the following ways:

redefining current goals, or setting new ones

managing stress

developing assertiveness or time management

It can also be useful to assist with issues to do with:

returning to work

how to renegotiate responsibilities, either personally or at work

how to improve or enhance relationships

What happens in sessions of Life-work coaching?

In the sessions we explore a variety of frameworks and techniques tailored to each individual. It gives an opportunity to:

stand back and reflect in a structured way

set realistic goals and move towards them

access appropriate sources of support

work with an objective view point

tackle underlying difficulties


When can Life-work coaching be given?

Life work coaching can be offered at any stage of breast cancer. It can help with the decision making and goal setting at any point of the breast cancer journey as well as after treatment has finished and when Visitors are trying to find their way forward.

How many sessions of Life-work coaching are given?

Usually Life-Work coaching takes the form of three sessions of an hour and a half each, although this will depend on your individual needs.  There will be opportunities to take away practical actions to consolidate the learning from sessions – as much or as little as you are able to do.
