Acupuncture Research studies show that acupuncture is effective in treating nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy and that it may improve the fatigue associated with cancer treatments. Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and has been used in the East for thousands of years and has only relatively recently been adopted by Western medicine. The practice involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points located on the body. The needles are left in place for a short time and then removed. It is based on the theory that a form of electro-magnetic energy known as ‘chi’ flows along a network of channels in the body called meridians. When the ‘chi’ is flowing freely, the mind and body are well balanced, but if it becomes stuck or blocked this can lead to tiredness, pain, discomfort, illness and distress. Acupuncture needles are used to help the chi flow and bring the body back to a more balanced and relaxed state. What our Visitors think 86% of Haven visitors asked find acupuncture very helpful.
