About us Who we are Our people in Yorkshire Debra Horsman – Breast Cancer Haven ManagerDebra Horsman was previously a Senior Breast Care Nurse for fourteen years in Yorkshire and former Chair of the Yorkshire Cancer Network’s Breast Care Group. Debra started nursing in 1976 at Wharfedale General Hospital, Otley where she stayed until 1996. She worked in many different areas from paediatrics to care of the elderly. Whilst at Otley, Debra became involved with people affected by breast cancer and set up a support group ‘Bosom Pals’. Her career path then changed and she joined Norma Russell OBE in the Bradford breast care team and also worked with the palliative care team. Since 2008, Debra has managed a team of experienced therapists and health professionals to ensure the effective delivery of Breast Cancer Haven’s innovative care programme to support the needs of anyone affected by breast cancer. Tom Robertshaw – Fundraising ManagerTom joined Breast Cancer Haven in 2009 as a Fundraising Assistant. After enjoying many successes in his first two years, Tom was given the opportunity to progress to Senior Community Fundraiser. After six years hard work and dedication Tom was promoted to Fundraising Manager in 2015. He manages all income streams for the Breast Cancer Haven, Yorkshire. Lizzie Philpott – Community and Events Fundraising Officer Lizzie joined Breast Cancer Haven in 2015 from Marie Curie where she worked as a Fundraiser in the North Yorkshire area managing a number of key appeals. Prior to this Lizzie worked as an event coordinator in the private sector organising events ranging from fashion shows to large corporate events and weddings. She now lives in Harrogate having moved to Yorkshire to attend Leeds Beckett University 8 years ago where she gained a BA Hons degree in Event Management. Alison Shaw -- Corporate and Community Fundraiser Alison joined Breast Cancer Haven in January 2017 after working in the Jazz and Big Band world for 4 years. Prior to this Alison worked for the BBC in Yorkshire for 13 years, organising events for television and radio. Many of them for Children in Need and Comic Relief, with a focus on finding case studies and making hard hitting films and radio packages for these campaigns. Her spare time is currently being spent renovating her home and keeping her springer spaniel Millie out of mischief. Deb Hope – Front Desk AdministratorDeb previously worked for St Anne’s Community Services as Reception/Administrator and prior to that for HSBC and Yorkshire Electricity. Deb has considerable experience as a receptionist with Yorkshire Bank whom she worked for over ten years as Head Receptionist. Deb lost her mum to breast cancer so understands first-hand the positive effects support and complementary therapies have on both the patient and family members. This experience encouraged her to work for Breast Cancer Haven and she sees this as an exciting opportunity to contribute to its growing success Kathy Johnson – Front Desk AdministratorBefore Breast Cancer Haven, Kathy worked as a receptionist for a printing company. Originally from Leeds, she now lives in Wakefield and loves walking her dog Ellie. Kathy recently completed her first 10K, running in support of Breast Cancer Haven, Yorkshire of course! Emily Foster – Fundraising Assistant Emily joined the team in January 2018 from the National Science and Media museum where she worked in Visitor Fundraising. Whilst there, Emily contributed to some of the highest earning months in donations in the Museum’s history. She was also the youngest member of staff to have been made a Manager. Emily graduated from the University of Sheffield In 2017, with a degree in History. She is passionate about History and so enjoys visiting museums and art galleries. When she’s not doing that, Emily likes to cook new recipes and walk her Jack Russell, Stanley. Charlene Smith – Trust & Foundations Executive Charlene joined the team in March 2018 with 7 years of Fundraising experience, having previously worked at a number of small charities in London and now in Yorkshire. Prior to her fundraising career, she worked in special education, and was a project manager for a small international development charity. In her spare time she writes, cooks and enjoys art of all kinds.
