“You have Breast Cancer” ... I will never forget those words on 12 June 2018.

Once you have your head around the news, you have to watch the ripple effect on your nearest and dearest. The worry in their eyes when they look at you. The question from your son .. “Are you going to die?” The fear you have for the future. The constant worry.

The actual removal of the cancer itself for me, was the easiest bit. But it’s the emotional and physical damage you are left with. How can you speak your worries to your closest when they are already struggling? Post a 💕 on Facebook to show you support breast cancer. What is that all about? People actually have no idea what it is about and need to be educated and also how common it is. We all know someone who has had it or is going through it.

The day I walked through the doors of Breast Cancer Haven, Hereford was to change my life in a way I didn’t expect. Julie asked me if I would take part in a fashion show they were organising. But it was a fashion show with a difference .. it was to promote ourselves and living with the effects of cancer. It was to give us confidence and empower us. It was a roaring success as we sold tickets to our family and friends and there were over 300 in the audience. As well as an amazing experience, we made an unbreakable bond between the ‘Blossom ladies’ (as we are known) and raised £16,000!

We laughed, we cried, we shared our fears, our aches and pains, our emotions and successes ... and we still do. We have an unbreakable bond and a very active social life!

We all have a story and we are all strong women who have come through it and are surviving, albeit we always have the cloud hanging over our heads, maybe a bit wonky or a bit fatter or sporting a new hairstyle, but we are all positive and a fantastic team of ladies. This support network would not be here if it wasn’t for Breast Cancer Haven, Hereford and it is a pleasure to raise funds for them. So please sponsor me as I fly through the skies.
