Kitchen volunteering Why we are asking for your help: When Visitors come to Breast Cancer Haven, we like to provide and warm and inviting atmosphere and central to that are our kitchen café areas in London, Yorkshire and Wessex, where nutritious lunches are offered during the week. Visitors and staff alike benefit from a homemade hot meal prepared by a dedicated team of volunteers. What we will ask you to do: Work with a fellow volunteer to plan your menu and shop for ingredients; then prepare, serve, and clean up the lunch service Liaise with the Volunteer Kitchen Volunteer Coordinator on your availability for rota purposes one month in advance Regularly update the Breast Cancer Haven Manager on all kitchen activity Follow the Haven’s guidance on nutrition and suitable ingredients for a balanced lunchtime meal Follow guidance on Health and Safety and hygiene in our kitchen environment Be a friendly and welcoming face to Visitors to the kitchen café Accept the suggested donation for meals and provide change from the cash box as required Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen environment, including washing up and disinfecting surfaces What the role holder will need to bring to the role: A genuine interest in the work of Breast Cancer Haven Good team working skills, enthusiasm and flexibility Reliability and an honest approach Be aged 18 or over A sensitive and warm approach to customer service Cooking and nutrition experience desirable What you will get in return: This role will provide you with the opportunity to meet new people and share a common goal. You will receive regular support from Breast Cancer Haven staff team and fellow Kitchen Volunteers, and will be provided with training and guidance to help you in your role. You will be directly contributing to the support provided to Breast Cancer Haven Visitors. Further, you will gain valuable experience in a unique kitchen environment. What commitment is required?
