We are delighted to announce that we will be opening our next Breast Cancer Haven in the West Midlands in 2017.

Whilst the purchase, refurbishment and redevelopment of the building is fully funded, thanks to a generous government gift of £2.5 million, this is only the start. Breast Cancer Haven now needs to raise in excess of £600,000 annually to ensure the centre is able to deliver and sustain its services.

There is a demonstrable need for a new centre in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Women in the West Midlands accounted for 10% of the 38,864 female breast cancer diagnoses across England and Wales with breast cancer being one of the most common forms of cancer among the West Midlands’ population

With around 2,500 breast cancer patients each year within a 35-mile radius of Solihull, the charity has overwhelming endorsement from healthcare professionals in the Heart of England Trust for the creation of a new centre.

Breast Cancer Haven has been running breast cancer support days in Solihull as part of its outreach programme in order to test demand for a new centre in the West Midlands. These have been extremely well attended (with significantly positive feedback on delivery) with many of the participants telling us that they would value and utilise such a permanent service if it were available to them in Solihull.

Feedback received from six Breast Cancer Support (Outreach) Days carried out in Solihull from June 2012 to November 2015 has been overwhelmingly positive.

Miranda from Solihull said: "I learned something from everything discussed today. To have this on our doorstep would be a dream come true”.

A dedicated West Midlands Fundraising Manager, Amanda Elliott, is already in post and they will be coordinating a local fundraising committee which will help us raise awareness and revenue from the region.
